Okay, so we all know the obvious reasons we should lose weight. Our health, to feel better, to look better, and so forth are the usual and important reasons we might want to lose weight. But let’s explore a few that we might take for granted.

  1. You might want to lose weight if you need to hold on to the nightstand or the headboard for leverage to pull yourself up to get out of bed.
  2. You might want to lose weight if you always get shotgun in the car because that’s the only place you will fit comfortably.
  3. You might want to lose weight if you go to a restaurant that only has booths and you have to sit on a chair brought to the table to sit at the end of the table even if the booth seats have space.
  4. You might want to lose weight if you can only buy slip-on shoes.
  5. You might want to lose weight if you can’t take a bath and can only take a shower. Bubble baths are nice . . .
  6. You might want to lose weight if a staircase might as well be Mt. Everest in your mind.
  7. You might want to lose weight if you have to use the stroller entrance instead of the turnstile entrance at Sea World.
  8. You might want to lose weight if someone mistakes you for Shamu at Sea World.
  9. You might want to lose weight if you can’t kneel in a church pew because there is not enough room for you to kneel.
  10. You might want to lose weight if you have to cut the plastic ties that hold seats together at a concert so you have more room and don’t sit half way on the person next to you.
  11. You might want to lose weight if people think you are your best friend’s mother because your weight makes you look matronly and older.
  12. You might want to lose weight if you take up one and a half or more seat cushions on a couch.
  13. You might want to lose weight if you have to use a special scale for people too heavy to use a regular doctor’s scale.
  14. You might want to lose weight if you can’t wear your wedding ring because you gained too much weight and it doesn’t go on your chubby fingers.
  15. You might want to lose weight if you can’t get your wedding ring off, and it is cinching in your finger so much that it looks like waist between boobs and hips.
  16. You might want to lose weight if you ever sat on a toilet seat and broke it and then tried to tell your family you accidentally dropped a heavy bottle of shampoo, and the bottle must have hit the toilet seat just right and cracked it.

Now I am not saying all these things have happened to me. Maybe they have, and maybe they haven’t. But I will tell you, I know what I am talking about. There are so many more. I’ll save them for the future.
