Is your fat your Berlin wall against the world? Walls are put up out of fear. Countries put up walls to keep the rest of the world out. People put up walls, fences, around their homes to keep their family safe. Businesses put up chain link fences around their business to keep their plant safe from intruders that may try to trespass.
So I ask you again. Do you use your fat to shut yourself out away from the world? You may not even be conscience that you are holding onto excess weight to avoid dealing with certain things in life.
I have known people who need to lose weight but do not because they have been hurt by the opposite sex. They are terrified of falling in love and being hurt if the relationship sours.
I have friends who have told me their husbands were so afraid of other men taking an interest in them that they constantly will do things to sabotage their weight loss efforts. These men could not help their jealousy and would rather have a fat wife than have a healthy wife.
Sometimes we say we want to lose weight, but we hold ourselves back. We are not even aware of it, but we sabotage ourselves because being fat keeps us in a familiar place. We don’t have to worry about failing others because their expectations of us are less because we are too fat.
When we allow our fat to put up barriers against the world, we are also putting up restrictive walls to our lives. We hold back from new experiences and meeting new people. We are worried we may fail, so if we are too fat to do something then we don’t have worry about failing at doing that something because we can’t do it anyway, and no one expects us to either.
Someone once told me that they act like a “hillbilly”, kind of stupid and silly, so no one expects much from them and leaves them alone. Guess what? This person is far too intelligent, and without even trying, once he opens his mouth, everyone knows how very capable he is. I hate to tell him, but he is failing at looking stupid. We all know better.
Let’s not let our fat be a barrier to the world. There is so much to experience, so many interesting people to meet and know and share with. There are so many things we can offer others once they get to know us.
Like the Berlin wall was torn down, tear the Berlin fat wall down. Open yourself up to new experiences, and to sharing yourself with the world. The universe is waiting for your contribution and wants to contribute to you.
Until we meet again, this is Linda Misleh Wagner, Future Former Fatty.
