Every year I look forward to New Years Day. It is a very special, almost spiritual day to me. I am a lover of new beginnings, fresh starts, self-reflection, and a time to set goals earnestly.
I guess to some, especially to those of us who struggle with our weight, every day we get up and start over in our weight loss efforts is kind of like New Years Day. There is a big difference, though. New Year’s Day is unlike any other day.
The old year is over. The first day of a brand new year is upon us. The opportunity to reflect on the past year and set personal goals, to really take stock, to count our blessings, and take responsibility for actions that did not serve us well is what New Year’s Day is all about. It is our day of rebirth.
Everyone jokes about making New Years Resolutions. Studies show most people who make New Year’s resolutions will break them in under a week. Some might say, “What’s the point?”
The point is this. Just like we start our diet, then blow it, then promise to get up tomorrow and start again, making resolutions is affirmation that we care about losing weight very deeply. It matters to us. We want something better than what we have now. We want our health. We want to feel good in our bodies. We want to move with grace and elegance.
The promises we make within Aaron’s program are like New Years resolutions.. We strive to make changes. With recognition that changes need to be made comes the acknowledgement that our lives can be fuller and enriched by having living a healthy lifestyle.
This year I did not reach some of my goals in weight loss. However, I have met goals that I was unaware I needed to meet until they came to pass. I have opened myself up to the world, asking the world for love and acceptance in return for my willingness to be open and honest about food addiction.
For 2014 I am bound and determined to meet and exceed my weight loss goals. I am determined to not only lose my weight but also to learn to love exercise, to take the time to put into practice all I have blogged about. I truly believe in what I have shared with you. I know what I have experienced can and will make a difference in your life and mine if we practice what we preach and we preach what we know. Our number one resolution is to lose weight and be healthy.
I invite you to join me on this journey of getting to know ourselves, of wanting to live a healthy life, in living in the world we deserve to enjoy.
Make are resolutions you will be able to fulfill. Stretch to meet them.
Happy holidays and happy New Year to you.
Until we meet again, this is Linda Misleh Wagner, Future Former Fatty.
