Tony is a great example of someone who has learned to better control their diabetes (type 1 in his case) with diet and exercise.
Tony Rose has recently been following the Paleo Diet style of eating to control his blood sugar, which can be low carb to semi-low carb depending on how you follow it. He has not only noticed the amount of insulin he needs to use has decreased significantly, but the spread between his blood sugar highs and lows has gone down as well.
He is also a fan of using kettlbells for exercise to control blood sugar. Tony likes using these over free weights because you can get a very fast and intense full body workout in a fraction of the time that you would going from exercise to exercise in a gym.
Tony Rose shared a nice tidbit on how to better control your desire to overeat when you wake up in the middle of the night with low blood sugar. As any diabetic in this situation knows, you are not exactly your calmest and sharpest after waking up in a pile of sweat and a pounding heart with the desire to attack sugar.
Just have the snack next your bed.
Simple isn’t it? Instead of walking downstairs to where the Oreos lay, and eating the whole box (and only that one box because you don’t have two), just have the snack that will correct your low blood sugar next to your bed. This way, you don’t overeat several hundred to several thousand calories, avoiding spiking your blood sugar sky high while laying on body fat.
If only everything in treating diabetes was this easy. Thanks again Tony Rose!
